The Fiorino dOro is Florence's highest award for people in the fashion industry and is one of the most prestigious awards for the industry as a whole. Longtime editor and fashionista Suzy Menkes received this honor recently and we couldn't agree more with the selection. She's a great example of how much of an impact words on paper can have over an entire industry, if not everyone.
Fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune , Suzy Menkes, was yesterday awarded the "Fiorino d'Oro" of the city of Florence, the historic Italian city's highest honour in recognition of her services to fashion.
In a ceremony at the city's Palazzo Vecchio, the Mayor of Florence, Matteo Renzi, described Menkes as "one of the most incredible representatives of fashion" and praised her unfailing ethics "even in this moment of crisis in journalism."
