The 'Piece Du Resistance' At Bali's Valley of The King

It’s an experience like no other, in a setting beautiful enough to bedazzle royalty. Bespoke, exclusive, and luxurious, Viceroy Bali is a unique destination resort poised on a ridge overlooking the verdant Valley of the Kings in central Bali. Located just seven minutes’ drive from central Ubud, this tropical paradise feels like another world, with 25 Bali-styled luxury pool villas, award winning restaurant, and peerless service, all set in one of the most lovely environments in the world. It’s the perfect place for the discerning traveler to relax and renew in utter tranquility, for celebrants to gather for a wedding or reunion, or for executives to retreat to plan for the future

Beautifully complementing everything else Viceroy Bali has to offer are its bespoke amenities, and perhaps the finest of these is its Lembah Spa. More than a place, more than a convenience, this spa is a transformative experience.

First, there is the setting. Taking full advantage of the natural beauty surrounding the resort, the spa is perched atop a gorgeous ridge with spectacular views overlooking the Petanu River Gorge. With elegant stone work, soaring atrium, unique cantilevered patio with fountain and infinity pool, couples treatment room, and open air Jacuzzi (together with steam room, plunge pool, and other facilities), the spa welcomes guests with soothing, integrative surroundings at one with the surrounding world.

Then there are the services. Lembah Spa is professionally managed pursuant to a distinct approach that merges the most modern of western science with the age-old wisdom of Balinese healing traditions. The result is a wellness-centered menu of treatments that soothe and rejuvenate both body and mind. Examples:

Traditional Massage: Traditional Balinese village massage is characterized by a firm finger-and-palm massage intended to help relieve muscle pain (traditionally, that caused by working long and hard hours in the rice fields).

Bali Lomi-Lomi: Lomi-lomi is a traditional Hawa’iian massage technique using fragrant oils and gentle pressure. Stretching is used to increase flexibility and range of motion.

French Massage: This special massage, similar to shiatsu massage, employs a technique to assist lymphatic drainage and aid in the reduction of cellulite.

Four Hand Harmony: Harmony Duo, perhaps the spa’s signature service, is a four-hands massage with two therapists working in tandem to gently ease the body into a state of total relaxation.

Special treatments include the following:

Viceroy Tropical Indulgence: An exfoliating fruit scrub is followed by a body mask of tropical and citrus fruits, then time in the steam room scented with orange essences, a cold pool plunge and hot Jacuzzi, a Balinese massage using essential orange oils, and a fruit bath with orange and lime slices.

Neptune's Fix: Exfoliation with a natural seaweed scrub is followed by a body mask of organic seaweed, a plastic body wrap, a warm shower and steam bath, a cold pool and a Jacuzzi, and finally, lymphatic massage.

Pirates of the East Indies: Body exfoliation using a combination of exotic spices and a body mask of coffee and cocoa is followed by relaxation for 20 minutes in the steam room, cold pool and Jacuzzi, then a lomi-lomi massage, and lastly a foot reflexology treatment.

Cleopatra on Petanu River: Recreating the Egyptian queen’s special bathing ritual, Lembah Spa begins with exfoliation using candlenut scrub and a body mask of whey, followed by a yogurt-milk-rose petal soak.

Standard In-Villa Package. This package begins with traditional Balinese massage using the finest essential oils, followed by exfoliation with Balinese lulur, or scrub, a yogurt application, and a warm flower bath.

Of course, all of the “basics” are provided for as well, in Lembah’s unique style:

Foot Reflexology: This millennium-old treatment focuses entirely on the feet to identify and treat health issues.

Deep Cleansing Facial: This gentle face massage involves cleansing creams, a steamer to open pores followed by a mild scrub to remove dead skin cells, and moisturizer.

Hair Cream Bath: One of Indonesia's unique massages, the traditional hair cream "bath" with head massage is completely relaxing.

Pedicure: The island of Bali is known for its gracious hospitality… and pedicures.

Manicure: Like a pedicure, the Lembah Spa manicure is not just a polish and massage, but an exhibit of Balinese attentiveness.

A few distinctively different packages:

Spa and High Tea Package: Guests enjoy a footbath with iced tea, a Balinese, Lomi-Lomi or French massage, a cream bath or facial, and three-course high tea.

Spa and Lunch Package: A footbath with iced tea, massage, and cream bath or facial is followed by a three course lunch.

Spa and Dinner Package: A footbath with iced tea, massage, cream bath or facial, three-course dinner.

Finally, there are the Lembah Spa staff. As remarkable as the setting and the services, they embody the essence of Balinese hospitality. Highly trained, welcoming, and attentive, the spa’s technicians, like the rest of the staff of Viceroy Bali, create an intimate, exclusive, and exquisitely relaxing experience in a serene and soothing setting
