Whether you're ready or not, summer is fast approaching. For some, summer is your favorite season; the weather's beautiful, people seem to be happier, and you can finally show off your beach-ready body that you've been working on for months. For others, summer is daunting and insecurities are at their highest. Here is a list of stand out beauty trends that are relevant to all, no matter what your perspective on summer!

Cosmetic Serums

Cosmetic serums are making a major comeback. They're becoming increasingly popular as an easy way to get rid of a dull complexion. The beauty of serums is that you only need a drop or two to rub into your face once a day. Vitamin C based serums are recommended when rejuvenating your skin. Popular serums include those by SkinCeuticals and serumtologie, however, I should note they are on the pricey side.

Oral Supplements

If you're looking to get behind a fad that is a bit less expensive, taking oral supplements of the same products in the serums works almost as well. A recent study concluded that oral supplements with an antioxidant-rich formula actually improve skin firmness and luminosity, but because they are not directly applied to the skin, they are not as effective. These supplements can contain vitamin C, zinc and SOD-infused concentrate (SOD: superoxide dismutase).

Statement Hats

The most recent Cannes Film Festival brought out all the latest celebrity trends. A noticeably popular style were statement hats. There are ranges of sizes and styles you can wear to perfect this style, being able to dress it up or down for any occasion. This is perfect for summer as it provides shade while simultaneously making you look chic!

Eye Masks

Regardless of where you live and what you do, all individuals experience bags under their eyes; this is caused by age, stress or lack of sleep. Fatemeh Ahmadraji, a pharmaceutical researcher, found that applying a pad under an eye infused with caffeine, vitamins and essential oils, hydrates the skin and causes the bags to disappear. You only need to wear the pad for less than an hour and you will see results soon after! Check out these ones from Earth Therapeutics

Short Hair, Don't Care

If you're in-touch with all that's buzzing in the Hollywood world, you may have noticed that numerous celebrities have recently chopped off their beautiful locks. With summer just around the corner, there is no surprise as to why the likes of Nina Dobrev, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez would want to shake things up and cut their hair just above their shoulders.

Studies indicate that long straight hair is deemed the most beautiful hair-related look for women. However, long straight hair only maintains this top title if properly groomed. Rationally, the most obvious way to keep healthy, beautiful and groomed hair would be to chop it off! Although a bold move, if you have an eventful summer planned, the last thing you want to be worrying about is the condition of your hair. Why have ratty-looking hair when you can have a sleek, stylish bob modelled after popular celebrities?

Full Lips

In the past two years, makeup tutorials have hit the internet hard. Whether on YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram, it's nearly impossible to not come across a beauty-related video at least once a day. Just a few months ago, contouring one's face was in; now, it's all about the full lips.

Yes, you can get lip injections like Kylie Jenner, but like any surgery, there are potential side effects to it and it can be costly. Instead, a beauty trick to create an illusion of full lips is quite simple: hydration. Applying a lip moisturizer frequently throughout the day will not only increase fullness, but also will improve lip texture, reduce surface lines, and enhance the lip's natural color. Of course if you prefer wearing lipstick, just make sure the brand you buy uses natural moisturizing products such as those produced by Mac.

Charcoal Everything

The latest buzz these days that keeps coming out with more and more ways to use it is activated charcoal in various beauty products. Here are two of the most popular trends to try this summer when you have a bit of free time:

Charcoal Toothpaste

Having a glamorous, pearly-white smile is a feature that is highly associated with beauty and incorporating charcoal into your toothpaste or as an additive does just that. The charcoal is capable of taking off built-up stains that have accumulated over years and years. This is especially helpful for those who are heavy coffee and tea drinkers. You will begin to see noticeably differences in your smile in just a few days of brushing your teeth with charcoal.

Charcoal Mask

Charcoal masks are slowly starting to capture international attention and now you should try them too. The charcoal helps clean clogged pores, while alleviating redness in the skin.

Before June 21st, take the time to prepare and try these simple beauty trends for your summer. Fortunately, most of these can be done throughout the year so keep them in mind whenever you're feeling insecure about yourself. Self-care is so important so do the things that make you feel and look your best!
