There's something so fulfilling about having the best of the best at your fingertips and this year's flagship Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge certainly delivers. It wouldn't be surprising if last year's Samsung flagship made you wary of upgrading to the S7 but it's time to take a second look.

The Galaxy S7 Edge is a well-appointed alternative to the iPhone, all clean lines in metal and glass with the signature curved screen that melts into the aluminum case and a near invisible bezel. Thanks to a process called 3D Thermo Forming, Samsung was able to curve the rear of the phone into a single sleek metal rim that runs all around the edge.

These gentle curves come together in a much more refined design than Samsung's earlier offerings, and this phone is not only larger but also thinner. It's definitely a smartphone that gets a second look from tech fans and luddites alike, and from a user perspective, this is a phone that feels smooth in hand.

Inside the S7 Edge's ultra-thin case you'll find the best of the best when it comes to specs. Top of the line components like Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 processor, a 3,600mAh battery that delivers a full day of talk time, 4GB of RAM to power the OS and apps, 32GB of built-in storage (with up to 200GB more with microSD), Near Field Communication, and Bluetooth v 4.2 LE make this a must-have for anyone who loves hardcore hardware that doesn't scream nerd.

The S7's best in class camera is a plus for travelers who want to capture more of the journey. While the Edge only boasts 12MP resolution, it makes up for it with an innovative new sensor that allows the phone to capture more light, more quickly. 4K capabilities, low-light optimization, a cool stable of effects and a fully outfitted manual mode make it the perfect go-to camera.

The Edge brings back IP68 dust resistance and long-term water resistance up to 3m. That means you can safely take it with you on a desert holiday and you never have to worry about it accidentally taking a dunk in the pool – good news for those of us who'd prefer to upgrade for features instead of oopses.

This smartphone also gives users access to the latest (and coolest) real world payment option on the market via Samsung Pay. Use it to pay with NFC but also at non-NFC terminals thanks to pioneering technology that mimics a credit card swipe. There's nothing like seeing the surprise on people's faces when you settle the tab with a wave of your phone.

Consumer Reports' editor Mike Gikas described the S7 as not just one of "Samsung's best smartphones, but, perhaps, the best smartphone." And there's more. Carriers like T-Mobile are offering deals that make the most the S7's high-end internals, like free no-data streaming with Binge On and Music Freedom, and then there's the Galaxy Gear VR headset – which should be a deal sweetener for anyone who loves being first to try the latest tech.
