WonderWorks Myrtle Beach is offering a new program that will recognize students’ achievements. The company is seeking nominations for their inaugural WonderKids program, designed to recognize students who go above and beyond inside and outside of the classroom. Nominations are now being accepted through April 3, 2020.

“We are thrilled to be launching such an awesome and unique program here at WonderWorks,” explains Kaitlin Barnes, Education Sales Manager at WonderWorks Myrtle Beach. “WonderKids allows us to inspire young minds within our community and instill the idea that learning can be fun! Also, what better way to do that than with the help of a NASA astronaut! It’s going to be a truly out-of-this-world experience.”

WonderKids is a program that highlights student achievement in the areas of academics, community service, and scientific discovery. Nominations are open to students from South and North Carolina in the following counties: Horry, Georgetown, Charleston, Marion, Dillon, Florence, Berkeley, Brunswick and Columbus.

Teachers are invited to nominate students in three categories:

Academic excellence – Going to a student who displays excellence in academia. They exceed the expectations of their teachers and peers and realize the importance of educational rigor in their future.

Service to the community – Going to a student who goes above and beyond when it comes to helping others. They demonstrate compassion and a strong aptitude of self-awareness.

Future scientist - Going to a student who exhibits passion when it comes to science. They live each day as an innovator and discoverer, hoping to one day change the world through their love of science.

Students who are selected for the WonderKids program will win an annual pass to WonderWorks Myrtle Beach for themselves and three other family members. The ceremony will be held on May 2, 2020, and will feature keynote speaker Dr. Don Thomas, a former NASA astronaut. Thomas has been part of several WonderKids programs at other locations across the country.

In addition to speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Don Thomas will also be giving special presentations at a local school days before. His presentation is a celebration of his journey and career through space. Teachers nominating a student for the WonderKids program will at the same time be entering their school for the chance to see Thomas’ presentation. The school visits will take place on April 30, 2020 and May 1, 2020.

WonderWorks continues to add new programs and exhibits to their facility in an effort to expand their educational offerings. In spring 2020, the indoor attraction will be opening a new origami exhibit. WonderWorks Myrtle Beach offers 50,000 square feet of “edu-tainment” opportunities, billing itself as an amusement park for the mind. It offers over 100 hands-on exhibits covering natural disasters, space discovery, an imagination lab, a physical challenge zone, a far out art gallery, and a light and sound zone. WonderWorks is open daily. For more information, log onto its site: https://www.wonderworksonline.com/myrtle-beach/.
