Women's Fashion With a Masculine Edge in Marni Resort 2013 Collection

Classic cuts and printed patterns have been dominating the runway for spring and summer collections, and Marni’s new 2013 Resort Collection followed suit while also staying true to the luxury fashion designer’s classic “library chic” look. Known for quirky femininity that pushes the boundaries of women’s fashion, Marni uses mix and match patterns in this collection to give women classic pieces with a little flare.

The silhouettes in designer Consuelo Castiglioni’s pieces can be best described as minimal and crisp, with contrasting pieces like below-the-knee length skirts and slouchy menswear-inspired trousers. The masculine tailoring of some of Marni’s pieces cannot be ignored, but paired with some of the more delicate garments, the mix and match theory succeeds again. “I didn’t put the focus on a single idea of a silhouette,” Castiglioni said in an interview with Women's Wear Daily. “I mixed pleats, curves and rounded lines with new lengths.”

Unlike the many bold and vibrant colors that have been seen on the runway this season, Castiglioni opted for pale hues that give life to her collection that’s full of high-waisted garments complete with structured coats, embroidered jackets and pleated skirts. A palette of neutrals including sky blues, lemonade yellows, and pink blush tones give a fresh look to this line, with prints that are characteristic to Marni’s style. Diamond-shaped and circular patterns resemble reptile skin and add an interesting element to the collection. The printed pieces paired with contrasting solids provide an overall balanced look, while mixing and matching the patterns make for a fashionably avant-garde ensemble.

The detailed accessories of this line make Marni’s Resort 2013 a well-rounded collection, including chunky necklaces, portfolio clutches and coin purses, sheer knee-length stockings and leather loafers and sandals. We think the collection is represented perfectly in this look that includes a blush pencil skirt, embroidered trench coat, knee-length stockings, low-heeled sandals, and a portfolio purse.
