With summer well under way, it’s only appropriate that one of swimwear’s most highly-regarded fashion shows took place over the last several days in Miami. The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim Show, which is considered the go-to event for luxury designer swimwear, is finishing up a five day stint after kicking off July 19 at The Raleigh Hotel. An all-time high of over 30 international designers debuted their latest collections at the annual event, as interest in the show continues to increase each year.
Lisa Blue Swimwear opened the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013 on Thursday, whose show was attended by Christina Milian, David Charvet and Brooke Burke. Inspired by flamingos, pinup, and even dragons, designer Lisa Burke’s collection featured a number of different themes but provided a fun and entertaining show for her audience. The show was complete with Latin dancers and cymbals, and Dancing With the Stars’ Karina Smirnoff did a salsa down the runway in a pink and black ruffled Flamenco-styled ensemble to aid the transition between two different themes. At one point, the designer herself even modeled one of her own creations down the runway.
Nicolita was another audience favorite, featuring a sexy, feminine, and trendy collection that is both practical and fashion-forward. Made to fit all figures from curvaceous to thin, this collaboration between designers Christina Milian and Nicole Di Rocco paid homage to a Havana Nights theme. Models sported 1940’s hairstyles while revealing what prints will be popular in 2013 during their walk down the runway: leopard, pastels, and florals.
Cia.Maritima Beachwear's collection featured beautiful prints on crafty bikinis, flowing caftans, and coverups. As one of Brazil’s most popular brands, Cia.Maritima is known for its intricate handwork that uses embroidery, crystals, beading, lace, and other emellishments, all of which can be seen in its 2013 collection. Designer Benny Rosset topped some of his looks off with sunglasses that matched the same print as the outfits and swimwear, which we predict will set a trend for 2013.
