Hackett London is a brand with a long-standing history behind its name. The luxury menswear label was founded in 1979 by two friends, Jeremy Hackett and Ashley Lloyd-Jennings, who met while shopping for second-hand classic British fashion in London’s Portobello Market. The two successfully began selling vintage menswear as vendors in the same market, and opened their own Hackett standalone store on London’s New Kings Road four years later. In 1985 they finally began selling their own creations, and today the brand is comprised of six lines— including menswear, formal knit, tailoring, eyewear, accessories and even children’s wear.
For fall, the label known for its affiliation with the sport of polo released a diverse menswear collection that is sophisticatedly stylish and British to the core. Classic suit jackets, duffel coats, cashmere cardigans, knit scarves and tartan bags are among the items you can expect to be worn by this season’s Hackett gentleman— all of which can be mixed and matched to create looks that would be appropriate for several different occasions. Comprised of four different themes, British men— no matter their personal style— have a wide range of looks to choose from.
“Town and Country” blends equal parts traditional and modern to create a look that is rustic and chic. At first glance, the herringbone jackets and tweed trousers remind us of hunting in England’s backwoods. “Mayfair,” on the other hand, is much more work-centered, with cardigans, single-breasted jackets, ties and cufflinks providing wardrobe staples for the business-savvy gentleman.
You can probably guess the look produced in the “Modern Prep” line: traditional uniform-like fitted collared shirts, V neck sweaters, varsity cardigans, and casual parkas that evoke images of the carefree campus life. The “Jubilee” collection rounds out the fall line, and is a limited edition of products that were created to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee earlier this year. Check back next season for Hackett’s inaugural appearance on the runway for spring menswear.
