Burberry Prorsum RTW Spring 2014: A Candy-Colored Dream Collection

Classic, clean and lady-like separates and outerwear were the main focus at Burberry Prorsum yesterday during London Fashion Week. The British fashion house is known for its outerwear, including jackets, coats and trenches, but in a pull away from the slim tailoring and hardware we’ve been seeing from the designer in the last few seasons, this collection shifts into lighter, delicate silhouettes. Borrowing lace and laser-cut elements from their Resort 2014 collection and pairing them with fresh candy-colors, make for an extraordinarily covetable collection. Burberry
Pastel hues are making a huge impact on London Fashion Week with designers sending out the macaroon shades in droves. That isn’t to say they're looking overdone. In fact, quite the opposite—a jumble of minty greens, baby blues and sugary pinks layered on one another gives this whole collection the sweet feminine appeal of youth, while still keeping every piece very wearable. Of course, you might be hesitant to try a smörgåsbord of pastels in one outfit, but they look so good piled on. Burberry
Sure, there were some sheer pieces that came down the runway with panties in full view, but oddly enough it didn’t look bad. I’m not suggesting you rock it down Seventh Avenue (well, maybe there you could get away with it), but with some light layering and a bold attitude you could pull it off. Burberry
The outerwear this season was largely unstructured—model’s figures were lost in the billowy material of the pieces, but the movement and cut of what seemed like a coat four sizes too big, was fantastic. It was feminine and somehow delicate, hanging off their shoulders in a way that channeled late Hollywood starlets. Burberry
Despite being almost entirely light pastels, there were some black and white pieces near the end of the show. While these colors were (almost absurdly) present at New York Fashion Week, in this collection they seemed almost an afterthought, or a way to tie their previous Resort collection into Spring. But despite the few pieces in that slightly overdone color palette, this entire collection is sitting happily on my wishlist for spring. Burberry
