From Pearl Swinging to Bra Burning: A Century of Women's Lingerie in 3 Minutes

Photo/Video Credit: Mode

The guys and gals over at Mode have done it again. Earlier this summer they captured the progression of men’s fashion over the last century in a pretty awesome three minute video, and now they’ve released a clip on the history of ladies lingerie. Scandalous! Covering all the underpinning trends from 1915 to 2015, the video features the relaxed (and frankly unflattering) looks from the early century all the way to the pearl-clutching, barely-there styles of the new millennium. While the short gives us a naughty little history lesson, what we found most surprising was that a lot of these pieces are still popular. Those high-waisted looks from the ‘60s? So on trend. The lacy shapers of the ‘40s? Still stocked in our lingerie drawers. Some of our favorites have to be the feminine looks of the ‘20s and the bodysuits of the ‘80s—they’re just too iconic. But the best part of the video? The surprise ending. We would hate to spoil it for you, but we will say it’s a fitting end to the visual journey through all the pearl-swinging, bra-burning decades.
