Each year, Chopard releases a new mens luxury watch from its Mille Miglia collection to celebrate the historic Mille Miglia run from Brescia to Rome. The auto race, which has occurred annually since 1927, is a prestigious competition that is acknowledged by connoisseurs as “la corsa più bella del mondo,” or “the most beautiful race in the world.” Chopard has been associated with the event since 1988, and this year the luxury watch brand released the Mille Miglia GMT Chrono 2012 to celebrate the race which occurred from May 17 to May 20 in Italy.

Chopard continually releases new editions of the watch to perfect the classic version and provide the best of the best to its consumers. This year’s edition of the watch features a self-winding movement chronometer with a stop seconds function to guarantee a highly accurate time-setting. Certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, the chronometer provides an extremely useful dual-time function to project the hour in two different time zones.

The timepiece’s functionality is just as exceptional and its crafters took the extra steps to ensure peerless readability. Inspired by the dashboard instruments of classic racing cars, the counters at 12 and 6 o’clock are oversized, and the white hour-marker stands out clearly against the black dial. The luxury watch also shows the hours, minutes, and small seconds at 9 o’clock, as well as the date through a window at 3 o’clock.

Aesthetically, this year’s version of the Mille Miglia GMT Chrono is just as pleasing. Both sporty and sophisticated, this edition is truly limited. Only 2,012 are available in steel, and a mere 250 were made in rose gold. It features a satin-brushed crown guard as well as a strap that makes it truly unique: the iconic natural rubber Dunlop Racing strap bears the famous 1960’s racing tyre-tread motif.

The technical case of the new Mille Miglia GMT Chronograph allows it to be resistant in water up to 50 meters. It also bears the symbolic “1000 Miglia” arrows on the back as well as a nameplate that carries the limited edition inscriptions.
