Urwerk makes some of our favorite avant-garde watches, but it’s rare that their clunky, industrial pieces are suited for a lady's wrist. Designing off their popular UR-106 series, they’ve created the UR-106 Black Pink Lotus, an updated version of their bestselling design. While we hesitate to say that adding some glitter and touch of pink makes a timepiece more feminine, in this case it totally works. The updated case is adorned with jet-black diamonds and is accented with bright splashes of shocking pink on the dial, numbers and indexes. Reserved as a limited-edition piece, only 11 of these watches have been made.

Based on the “wandering hours principle,” that makes up the iconic Urwerk mechanics, the latest features three satellite arms, each with four numbers that rotate to reflect the correct time as they move across the face. “We paid particular attention to the details of this UR-106 version,” creators Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei noted. “The carousel and satellites have been worked on by hand to create a special satin finish, while our workshops have carefully painted each hour numeral and cut-out minutes scale. The moon shines in a sky of lapis-lazuli blue selected from hundreds of different shades, while the outline of the lotus on the back is exactly as Martin drew it. We wanted a sleek, handsome watch for our UR-106 series, and for us this is a mission success.”

The black diamonds across its shadowy face are less ostentatious than some of Urwerk’s other women's timepieces, but it’s no less powerful. The watch is powered by a self-winding, in-house designed RU6.01 caliber with a 48-hour power reserve. Outside the piece is protected by a steel case and titanium crown, with a black PVD coated frame, while the interior has been sanded and brushed by hand to give it a muted finish. The hours and minutes were also hand-done, painted with a SuperLuminova for peak visibility in the dark.
