In an effort to highlight Japan’s craftsmanship and draw in new customers, Ermenegildo Zegna has just released an exclusive capsule collection made entirely in the Land of the Rising Sun. Crafted by local tailors using Japanese textiles and techniques, the collection is a way for the brand to feature the country’s high-quality fabrics and manufacturing techniques. The new line is also a celebratory collection, and marks the opening of the company’s first Japanese stores—one in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza district and the other in the Southern city of Osaka.
The 22 piece collection, titled Ermenegildo Zegna Couture Made in Japan, includes coats, jackets, two-piece suits, pants, jeans, shoes, leather goods and accessories. Some of the most unique pieces include a woven blazer with a textured knit-like effect, a jacket that is soft to the touch, but looks almost plastic, and a few pieces made from Japanese selvage denim. Other pieces use more traditional fabrics like silk seersuckers, wool flannel, and cotton micro jacquard. Stefano Pilati, Zegna’s head of design, told WWD the collection was a “little wardrobe, but complete.”
The collection was released over the weekend at Zegna’s flagship store in Ginza, but will roll out to the brand’s Osaka location by October 1. By the end of 2015 the collection will be available at all of Zegna’s global outlets.
