Have you ever thought, "I should buy a £4,000,000 New York apartment for my toddler so she has somewhere to live when she goes to college?" According to the DailyMail, a Chinese state broadcaster has done just that and bought a luxury apartment in Manhattan (for around $6,078,800) in the acclaimed One57 tower for her daughter, assuming that one day the little girl will be attending either Columbia, NYU or Harvard and will need to live in the center of the city.

Kevin Brown, senior vice president at Sotheby's International, specializes in the property and was apparently surprised at the mother's reason for purchase, as the intended occupant hasn't even learned to read yet. While it may seem odd to spend that much money on a kid, when thought of in the investment sense, the purchase doesn't seem quite as strange. You might be wondering what the buyer intends to do if her daughter chooses to live elsewhere when she gets older (though who wouldn't want to live there?), but buying an apartment in the One57 tower definitely seems like a great investment, especially considering billionaires like Michael Kors have already signed contracts for $50M full-floor flats. Someone has even snatched the penthouse on the 89th and 90th floors for a reported $95M. One57 is still under construction but the building is slated to be completely finished by the end of the year, giving plenty of time for the unnamed buyer's daughter to grow into her future home.

This woman is smart. She is gaining assets for her child, which if she has a prenup would be the smartest move ever just in case the marriage doesn't work. As far as commuting to college from Manhattan.....just 15 years ago HD TVs were huge boxy things rolled around on the floor, a majority of the internet was dial-up at 56k narrowband not wireless, a laptop typically weighed as much as a small dog, AOL cost $20 a month for an email account, the cell phones were still analog, one rented movies from a store of which still carried VHS tapes, social networking - what was that? So in the next sixteen years who knows where technology will be, this child may be taking all of her classes remotely from the posh flat that her mum bought her today. Again, smart woman.

Ummmmm....I believe that the commute to Harvard is going to be arduous from NYC. Maybe her mom could buy her a jet.

A jet would be impractical. Maybe a helicopter lol

That's one heck of a daily commute, from Manhattan to Harvard, which is in Cambridge, MA, some 200 miles away...

In time. You don't want to buy a private plane now, because there's nothing more embarrassing than a daily commute to Harvard in an OLD private plane! :-O
