Taking place at the auction house's 450 Park Ave headquarters, the luxury art auction will also feature important works by many other prominent artists, like Pablo Picasso and Cy Twombly.
Of the Warhol offerings there is “Diamond Dust Shoes” and "Shoes", 1980, his homage to femininity and luxury. "Diamond" is estimated at $200,000 to $300,00 and "Shoes" is estimated at a lower $40,000 to $60,000. The prints (both framed and in good condition) combine all of Warhol's favorite themes of Hollywood glamour, wealth, and image. The artist apparently sent his assistants out to find the many pairs of vintage and modern shoes for his photos.
Also up for auction by Warhol is his “Moonwalk Suite” 1987, which depicts Neil Armstrong’s moon walk and is estimated to go for around $15,0000, and his “ Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn)” portrait that shows the feminine ideal as a green and red negative, estimated at $60,000 to $80,000. Warhol's famous "Campbell's Soup I Portfolio" 1968 is also included, expected to fetch anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000.
As for the Picasso selections, the auction includes a few of his earthenware and lithographs. "Birds and Fishes" 1955 is a large vase with engobe decorations and is estimated at $50,000 to $70,000. "Aztec Vase with Four Faces" 1957 is painted with white enamel, blue, beige and white, featuring knife engravings and estimated to go for anywhere between $30,000 and $50,000.
Aside from Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso, people can expect to see some of Gerhard Richter's varied paintings, which he is commended for due to their photo-realism. The piece of his available for auction is an abstract painting titled “Grun-blau-rot” with a high estimate of $300,000. American minimalist Jasper Johns’ print “Target” will also be up for auction, estimated to bring in upwards of $180,000.
Additionally, the auction includes pieces by Roy Lichtenstein (known for his pop-art paintings), and American artist Cy Twombly (known for his large scale scribbling). The viewing will take place October 20-29 and the auction will take place on the 29th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
