Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance's official auction house, Gooding & Company, will be auctioning off a very special 2008 Tesla "Signature 100" Roadster previously belonging to actor George Clooney. According to G&C, this groundbreaking roadster was the world's very first high-performance electric sports car when it debuted in 2008 and Clooney was personally invited to purchase the car number 0008 for himself.
The sleek, Obsidian Black Metallic luxury vehicle has only 1,700 miles on it and has a two-tone leather interior. It features a 375-Volt AC induction air-cooled electric motor, 248 BHP at 5,000-8,000 RPM, and a single-speed, fixed-gear transmission. It also has 4-wheel disc brakes and independent coil-spring suspension. Clooney has apparently said that his car, estimated between $100,000-$125,000, is a thrill to drive.
Taking place on August 19, 2012, the car's auction proceeds will be donated to the Satellite Sentinel Project (SSP), which is a non-profit organization that keeps an eye on the border between Northern and Southern Sudan in attempts to prevent another civil war between the sides. SSP captures images of possible aggressive behavior, so news organizations, key policy makers, and peace-keeping groups can be quickly informed of the activity to bring about awareness and action. The award-winning actor is known for his generous humanitarian work and is actually the SSP's co-founder, along with human rights activist John Prendergast.
