If you've ever wanted a superyacht that could double as the north star, this design by Lobanov Design and BMT Nigel Gee is it. Aptly named Star, the project started as a doodle on a napkin, a challenge to create a yacht that brings together modern architecture, and product and car design. Judging by these concept photos, they wildly succeeded.

Created to be a private yacht—or maybe even a super exclusive private hotel—Star is 132m (433ft) in length and over 60m in height (196ft). Its "technical development features a symmetrically fore & aft double ended hullform, with all electric architecture and fully azimuthing propulsion." The design allows the yacht to rotate within her own length to follow the arc of the sun, without the need for traditional anchors.

“Historically yacht design has been described as both an art and a science. STAR is a tangible view of a 21st century interpretation of art and science," says James Roy, Yacht Design Director of BMT Nigel Gee. "We are fortunate to live in an era where technology makes the delivery of bolder designs more possible—for clients who are adventurous innovators anything is truly possible."

With more than 3,500 square feet of interior room, Star comes in at 9,000 Gross Tons and has a maximum speed of around 18 knots (around 20.7mph) with a range of over 5,000 nautical miles at 14kts. It features a cluster of four lifts that give you access to the eight decks, with lifts one and three extending from a "sub-marine viewing area within the lifting keel up to a viewing platform on the eighth deck offering unprecedented views down onto the unique form of the vessel itself, as well as providing a range of visibility of over 20km."
