With the holidays right around the corner you’re likely working your way through your Christmas list, checking off cousins, grandparents and maybe a few co-workers as you go, but there’s always someone who you save for last. The one person who is undoubtedly impossible to shop for and even the thought of trying to get them an espresso machine or monogrammed pajamas just seems silly. But this year you can gift them something that’s truly unique—land ownership in Scotland and a fancy new title of Lord or Lady to ring in the New Year. Get your monocles and diadems ready.

Highland Titles is a conservation group dedicated to protecting the natural woodlands and open-ground habitats of the Scottish highlands from being developed. They are able to do this through the sale of souvenir plots in Glencoe Wood, Duror and Mountainview, Lochaber, beautiful green areas filled with lush forests, streams, lakes and animals that call the preserve home. With a native woodland that once covered most of the country, the forests have been diminished to only one percent of the area, but with the purchase of conservation land, 100 percent of the profits go to planting new trees, restoring lakes and reintroducing native species to the environment. And in addition to preserving the ecological balance of the highlands, the land becomes yours and all of the rights that come with it—including Scottish titles.

Highland Titles

Wildlife conservation is just one of the things you can accomplish as a new Lord or Lady of Scotland. With a land purchase owners receive the title of Laird, Lord or Lady and can legally be called such as you (or the lucky recipient) will receive a Master Title Deed, as “owners of small Scottish estate have every right to adopt the title of Laird, Lord or Lady.” Personally we think this is much better than a coffeemaker or Apple Watch. As Lord or Lady of Glencoe, owners are entitled to visit their grounds and camp, hike, scatter ashes, plant a tree or picnic with the local flora and fauna in the area. With a new title also comes the Glencoe crest and tartan which may be worn by Lords and Ladies of the area.

If you’re planning on purchasing a larger plot of land, keep in mind that your title does come with a few perks. Aside from preserving the environment for future generations, owners will also receive Priority Pass airport lounge access worldwide (to live the “Laird Lifestyle”), and Highland Titles also suggests using your title for exceptional service on flights, in restaurants and during travel. Admittedly we feel pretty good about making a contribution to a great cause, but we aren’t going to pretend like adding Lady to our name didn’t have anything to do with it. On second thought, you can get them those monogrammed silk pajamas—just make sure to add an L to them.

Plots begin are sold in one sq. ft. to 1,000 sq. ft increments and range from $48-$800+.
