Any lover of food-related TV shows has probably heard of Buddy Valastro, the star of TLC’s Cake Boss and owner of the renowned Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey. The fourth-generation baker who was born into the business owned and operated by his parents, rose to critical acclaim when his show debuted in 2010—but now Valastro is taking his talent to sea. An extension of his family business will open on the Norwegian Breakaway, a luxury cruise ship who will call New York City her homeport this May.

The Norwegian Cruise Line’s new ship will have a New York City theme with several local amenities to bring a taste of the region to Breakaway guests. For Kevin Sheehan, the cruise line’s chief executive officer, Valastro was an obvious choice for giving his passengers the best of the Big Apple. “The New York area is known for its outstanding bakeries,” he said. “Buddy is known as the ultimate baker, so we knew he was the best choice for our new bakery on Norwegian Breakaway.”

Valastro, a family man himself, is excited to bring his business aboard an environment that he calls “the ultimate ship for families.” The new location will include all of the tasty treats that Carlo’s Bake Shop has become known for, like freshly baked cookies, cakes, pies and cupcakes. Original Valastro creations like Buddy’s famous fondant cakes will be sold à la carte, along with Italian classics like cannolis, chocolate truffles and tiramisu. Carlo’s will also offer cupcake decorating classes so you can put your own skills to the test once you’re back on land.
