The five-star Belmond Grand Hotel Europe has unveiled six new grandiose suites created by Tihany Design, just in time for the property’s 140th anniversary next year. Designed to complement the historic hotel’s neo-baroque décor, the five new accommodations and the presidential suite are inspired by 20th century Russian artists and have been created from 19 first-floor rooms.
Claiming the largest presidential suite in St. Petersburg, the space spans over 3,770 square feet and includes two bedrooms with king-size beds, views of Nevsky Prospekt and Mikhailovskaya Ulitsa, a hammam sauna and two marble bathrooms. With a private chef on hand, guests can enjoy prepared meals that can be shared around the eight-person dining table.
In the music room sits an antique Carl Schroeder grand piano, and if music isn’t your cup of tea, there’s a game room, library and fitness center with cycling machine and treadmill all within the suite. One feature that we really love is the secret bookcase that leads to a bedroom, how very Chronicles of Narnia of them.
The additional five residences, called the Avant-Garde Suites, are named after famous artists from the 1900’s Russian art era: Malevich, Archipenko, Kandinsky, Rodchenko and Lissitzky. Each one-bedroom suite comes with a living room, dining table and high ceilings along with specially commissioned artwork reminiscent of their namesake artist. Abstract art dons the walls of the Kandinsky suite while sensual lines and warm tones dress the Archipenko residence.
As part of the hotel’s on-going refurbishment project, the suites are the latest phase of renovations which also included the completion of a restoration on the hotel’s neo-baroque façade in 2013. The property also plans to open a new pan-Asian culinary concept.
