San Diego Dining: Under the direction of Chef Brian Malarkey (Bravo's Top Chef finalist), Searsucker has quickly become a comfortable choice for indulging in eclectic menus. Located on a busy block of the Gaslamp Quarter, this eatery is decidedly Californian.
Dishes here are created using locally-caught seafood, and prepared in a kitchen so wide open that you could make requests yourself should you be so brave. The fun atmosphere here is a great way to enjoy fine food in a casual environment.
We went here on opening weekend and it was hopping! We didn't eat, but stepped inside to grab a drink and check out the restaurant. The kitchen is wide open so you can see everything going on, including Brian running the show. I like the comfortable decor, it was rustic but classy. The cocktail menu had some interesting original concoctions, I tried the Chorizo spiced daisy, which has a bloody-mary ish feel, I thought it was pretty good. I'll be back another night to try the food.
