Luxury Spas: Body of Santa Fe can really only can be described as a community, a place for the rich and famous to mingle with the masses who have come to this mecca of healthful living. You can find exceptional spa treatments here, dance, yoga, a book store filled with healthful living ideas, a boutique of handsome, trendy clothes, a health food products section and an amazing cafe that serves the most delicious and innovative food around. Then of course there is Body founder, Lorin Parrish herself, who has followed a lifelong passion for the healing arts, nutrition, the environment and well being. She brought it all together, creating Body in 2004, after an adventure filled life spent working and living abroad.
Lorin grew up in Southern California, moving at age 16 to Hawaii to attend high school and live with her brother Tom. In Hawaii, she was first introduced to yoga, vegetarian cooking and lifestyle, eastern philosophy, and pipeline surfing. Moving back to Hawaii after college, she assisted her brother with Quiksilver, an up and coming surf wear company at the time, and through her brother became involved in Oahu’s surf culture.
But Lorin, a very vivacious and energized healer went on to travel throughout Southeast Asia, living in various monasteries, pursuing meditation and spiritual practice with such teachers and the Dalai Lama, Sri Sri Anandamayima, Munindraji, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and Mother Krishnabai. In 1984 she assumed directorship of the Director at New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts where she developed seven diploma programs in bodywork that has made the Academy one of the most renowned schools of healing in the country.
Recently sitting and chatting with Lorin, as we were served the most amazing lunch of "raw food" Body, a specialty at Body, I was mesmerized by Lorin's enthusiasm for healthful living. She and some of her employees, who are crazy about her by the way, modeled some of the chic clothing the boutique at Body specializes in. As we sipped on fresh squeezed ginger lemonade and munched on pizza with crust made from crushed cashews, I realized there was so much more to diet than just eating right. I mean to tell you the meal was to die for!
