I literally walked from the beach up to the entrance of the Hotel Del Coronado's spa doors. The Hotel Del Coronado overlooks Coronado Beach, commonly ranked one of North America's best beaches by travel media outlets and is the only hotel property, or building, for that matter, along the entire two-mile beachfront.
From the Spa's modern vanishing edge pool, I admired the view of the Pacific Ocean and grassy lawn area, laced with palm trees. At dusk, my spa attendant mentioned, guests often marvel at the vivid sunsets while sipping wine next to their private fire pits. Inside, I noted the classic white crown molding, the Victorian chandeliers and the sea green tile work, all elements of the Del's timeless décor.
My deep tissue massage, combined with balmy beach essential oils, was flawless. The Spa houses 21 treatment rooms, each well appointed, and some that include hydrotherapy tubs for deep soaking. I'm returning soon for the Shell Coronado massage, a Swedish inspired massage that implements heated tiger clam shells to relieve tension. One guest I spoke with in the large steam room loved her Sunburn Relief Wrap. This soothing treatment cocooned her in a cooling aloe vera wrap with Hawaiian Noni, a fruit juice from the Hawaiian islands lauded for its health benefits.
Before I re-entered the lounge area, my therapist gave me a piece of smooth sea glass, a reminder, she said, of the ocean and its healing nature. A small touch, but one I liked a lot. Also of note-the Spa consistently offers inventive specials. I love the sound of "That's S'moree," a couples massage package that ends with a private beach bonfire with champagne and s'mores. For the fall, "Sports Widow Sundays", allow the non-football fanatical to enjoy a 20% discount on all spa treatments over 50 minutes on Sundays after 1p.m.
