Overwater bungalows seem to be popping up across the globe lately—and we’re definitely not complaining. The latest brand to dip their toes into the Caribbean’s crystal blue waters is the Viceroy Hotel Group with the opening of a new Panama destination.
Planned for 2019, the Viceroy Bocas del Toro Panama will sit along 427 acres of coastline and will be only accessible by boat, seaplane or helicopter. The accommodations will be made up of 186 guestrooms inclusive of 42 overwater villas. The latter will boast private plunge pools, decks and direct access to the ocean.
Around the resort guests can choose to dine in one of eight restaurants and lounges ranging from casual beachside eateries to fine dining venues. Other amenities include a cinema, library, fitness center, spa and meeting spaces. To protect its surrounding environment, the construction will focus on sustainable technologies and only electrical cars will be allowed on property.
The archipelago is home to the most biologically diverse tropical coral reef in the region, the San San Pond Sak wetlands, and is an ideal destination for guided snorkeling, sailing, eco-hikes, bird watching, rainforest zip-lining, paddle boarding and deep sea fishing.
