The train offers two itineraries each lasting for a week. Whereas the Pride of the South itinerary traversed the course of Karnataka, the Splendor of the South itinerary encompassed major destinations across South India. However, now the guests also have an option of hopping in and off at any of the several destinations included in the 15 day itinerary which combines both itinerary, provided they spend at least 3 consecutive nights in the train.

South India resounds with the rich heritage of ancient civilizations, royal dynasties and superlative architectural movements like the Dravidian, Hoysala and the Mysore. Another major contributor to the attraction of South India is its varied geography, thanks to the Western Ghats and proximity to the Oceans. South India not just rich in cultural diversity only, it is also renowned for its beaches, backwaters, diverse wildlife and salubrious hill stations.

Golden Chariot is an endeavor to acquaint the guests with this amazing allure of South India. The ceilings and the windowpanes of the carriages are carved with exquisite workmanship in Hoysala and Mysore traditions are reminiscent of magnificent heritage and the Sylvan furnishing add to the quaint décor of the interiors of the Golden Chariot. The Golden Chariot come equipped with hi-tech facilities which includes Wi-Fi internet access, plasma TVs in each cabin, a conference room, a gymnasium and a rejuvenation spa previously unheard of in a luxury train.

There are 13 guest carriages in the Golden Chariot which may accommodate 88 guests onboard. The cabins come equipped with comfortable beds, wardrobes, writing desks and attached bathrooms. The Golden Chariot doesn’t disappoint on the dining front either. There are two restaurants and a lounge bar in this luxury train which offer service akin to a five star luxury hotels. Then there is the lounge bar Madira, literally meaning the drink of the gods in the Indian mythologies. It offers the choicest of the wine and drinks from around the world. With its elegant décor, serene ambience and relaxing seating arrangement, the Madira is an ideal place to unwind after a tiring itinerary.

The Golden Chariot is painted in purple and gold hues which allude to the royal insignias of South Indian dynasties, and exude a unique aura of elegance. The logo of this luxury train in India is a mythical animal, a lion with an elephant’s head. Again the lion and the elephant have a long association with royalty.  The name of the train itself is inspired from the famous Stone Chariot in Hampi. To say that a journey onboard the Golden Chariot train is an enchanting South Indian Ballad will not be an exaggeration.
