Live music daily, Bohemian breakfasts and exotic cocktails served up in an eclectic space - what more could you ask for?
As soon as you enter the lower level space of the Boston Center for the Arts, you will quickly be taken with the cool atmosphere of this lively supper club. There was a jazz trio on stage playing some live music, which provided a welcoming mood. Every night, this hot spot is buzzing with an extensive entertainment lineup that ranges from cabaret to blues. The funky interior here is decorated with enormous chandeliers, flowing drapery and beautiful artwork.
We started off with a Bloody Mary served up with just the right amount of black pepper and hot sauce to give it a flavorful kick. Instead of the traditional mimosas, you will find selections like the Bee lini, a simple yet delicious concoction of apricot nectar paired up with champagne.
Our server suggested we sample the oysters from Cape Neddick, Maine and we were glad she did. A dozen briny bivalves arrived with vinaigrette as well as a spicy horseradish cocktail sauce. The mezze platter of hummus was so flavorful filled with creamy whipped feta, beet salad, olives and pickles.
Chef Newell has some great offerings on the menu so you can get off to a sweet start with a basket of beignets, a healthy start with yogurt and granola or a hearty beginning with potato and cheese pierogies. The lime and jalapeno luxe seafood ceviche sounded intriguing from the raw bar menu, which also included Maine Jonah crab claws and jumbo shrimp cocktail.
The signature breakfast dish here is the savory eggs Shakshuka (Bohemian style) two sunnyside eggs served with a North African style tomato sauce atop the bed of polenta. You can add a side of Moroccan sausage, which is made with lamb for an additional $2. Other breakfast dishes featured eggs Benedict with ham or smoked salmon, a mac and cheese quiche, thick cut French toast with Chantilly cream and a variety of omelets.
The chicken club was enormous, served with a side of perfectly salted frites and accompanied by a tasty slaw. The hanger steak was incredibly tender and juicy served with a side of fried eggs (your choice) and a light side salad. If you are in the mood for lunch dishes, there was also a salad of herb crusted seared tuna, a big lunch salad served with steak or chicken and their very own Beehive burger.
We ended our fun afternoon here with a taste of their homemade maple bread pudding, a sticky taste of maple goodness topped with sweet syrup and served with a side of ice cream - the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. In the warmer months, be sure to check out the outdoor patio for al fresco dining.
