Savin Bar + Kitchen recently opened in Boston's neighborhood section of Dorchester following almost a year's worth of improvements to the historic building. Owners Kenneth Osherow and Driscoll DoCanto have transformed the former tavern into a warm inviting space, opening the kitchen and knocking down walls to create additional window space allowing for an open air feel and better lighting.
"The former restaurant was closed for over a year so there was a lot of demand for a new restaurant here," Osherow said. "It took us about a year to get it reopened because there was no sprinkler system and it wasn't up to code. The Savin Hill area was underserved with restaurants so we wanted to create a restaurant that would be a meeting place for residents."
"I think it is going to be a place where people feel comfortable going a few times a week and also coming to for that special occasion. We want old time Savin Hill residents to feel at home here while still attracting a younger crowd as well."
The restaurant now serves classic dishes with a modern twist (think walnut and goat cheese Agnolotti pasta with mushrooms and blueberries) as well as traditional home cooked favorites like Irish beef stew made with Guinness braised short ribs. There are also more than 20 wines available by the glass nd more than 20 beers available in bottles or draft.
Whether you come to share some of the small plates like the grilled calamari, Savin pizza or sausage and oyster roast, or for dinner to indulge in steak frites or the butcher's choice Bolognese, Executive Chef Todd Lesakowski seems to have thought of everyone when preparing the menu offering (Don't miss the weekend brunch menu with some fun cocktails).
"This restaurant has been so fun because now we have an interesting and eclectic menu that is constantly changing and will continue to evolve," he said. "All of our food is made from scratch so we can deliver a high food experience to our customers."
