Boston certainly has its share of steakhouses and seafood restaurants, but where should you go for a great meal outside of the city? Head down to Providence, just an hour south of Boston, to Ten Steak & Sushi. Its endless selection of sushi and top quality beef (not to mention the complimentary valet that is unheard of in Boston) make it one of our favorite “out-of-town” picks.
When you first arrive, kick back with a tall Mango Mai Tai and relax in the beautiful dining room, replete with its vibrant, funky décor, striped banquettes, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and blue-lit bar. We started off with a sampling of the spicy tuna roll – six pieces of fresh tuna, cucumber and chives wrapped in white rice and set atop a smear of spicy mayo. Our server, David mentioned the Crunchy Munchie, fried coconut shrimp topped with tempura crab, honey truffle aioli and chives, as one of their more popular starters. Also highly recommended, and one of our “musts,” is the Sushi Sandwich. This grilled, “finger sandwich” roll of tuna, salmon and hamachi is placed atop spicy mayo and Sriracha for extra heat.
Now it’s time to talk about steaks and chops. The selection here is comparable to any Boston restaurant (and so are the prices). We recommend the 12-ounce bone-in filet and 18-ounce Certified Angus Beef bone-in New York sirloin. Each cut was incredibly tender and cooked to a medium rare perfection. The steaks are served with a variety of toppings, including creamy horseradish and Béarnaise. Pair it all up with a bottle of 2010 Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley for an unforgettable meal.
Steaks here are served à la carte so we chose the loaded spuds smothered with cheddar, bacon, scallions, sour cream (who’s counting calories?) and sautéed mixed mushrooms to serve as the perfect complement to our steaks. If you are visiting with a large party, be sure to request a reservation in the back private room, which seats up to 30. Also, located through the kitchen is a 10-person chef’s table where guests can enjoy a fun, front row dining experience. Ten Steak & Sushi is located at 55 Pine Street in Providence, Rhode Island.
