In 1963 John and Johanna Bass bequeathed their art collection to the City of Miami Beach and it became the Bass Museum of Art. Surrounded by the gardens of Collins Park, the museum displays their exhibits within the original Miami Beach Public Library, which was the first public building to show works of art.
Collections at the Bass Museum of Art present shows and exhibits ranging from discussions and displays of antiquities, Renaissance pieces, and Baroque art. There are also curations of English portraiture and contemporary photography.
