San Diego Culture: Balboa Park is one of the largest urban cultural parks in the United States. It has been home to a pair of world's fairs, and many of the buildings here were built for these expositions. Among the structures are several museums, educational centers and concert venues. In addition to these buildings there are also several gardens throughout the park featuring botanical specimens from around the world.
The variety and volume of venues here lends itself to a full calendar of yearly events from summer festivals to winter carnivals. Within the park there are a couple restaurants, or you can venture into one of the surrounding neighborhoods for lunch.
