Heritage Auctions’ recent Signature World and Ancient Coins Auction at the Long Beach Coin, Stamps & Collectibles Expo realized more than $20.5 million. The sale of a 1909 Korean gold-coin set for more than $1.39 million was the most expensive lot sold at the two-day auction held September 8-9, in Long Beach, California. Auction house Christie's is teaming up with Takashi Murakami and Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd., to provide support for the victims of the March 11, 2011, Tohoku-Pacific earthquake in Japan. Artist Takashi Murakami will select the artists who will donate their works to the relief effort in an upcoming auction to be held in New York City. An announcement with complete details for the auction will be made in early fall. What is known at this point is that the artists contributing are some of the biggest names in contemporary art.
