When it comes to Las Vegas, there’s no shortage of enticing hotels, delectable eats, tranquil spas or energizing nightlife; in fact, the options are so dizzying, it’s easily overwhelming. For my most recent visit to Sin City, I opted for a change of pace, took a few steps away from the Strip and stayed at the iconic Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for an unforgettable rock star weekend.

Amidst the hotel’s world-renowned rock n’ roll roots (there’s over $3 million worth of rare music memorabilia on display throughout the property), endless entertainment (there’s Vanity Nightclub, which packs the house on weekends, bowling in the Real World Suite and live concerts at The Joint), and the recently-renovated HRH Tower (black croc décor, modern glam home furnishings, ultra plush beds and mesmerizing photography of music’s greatest legends give off a distinctive modern rocker vibe); I ironically found a comforting oasis in the Reliquary Spa.

Upon entering the spa, you’ll step inside a chic co-ed bathhouse (swimwear required), before escaping to an indulgent treatment. I received the Ancient Cane Ritual treatment, a 50-minute massage truly unlike anything else I’ve experienced before. It started out like a typical massage with some pressure point work and soothing relaxation before everything turned a bit more intense.

Bamboo reeds were then used as instruments to knead, roll and drum over my entire body. Sounds a little wacky but trust me when I say it worked wonders. The use of these clever tools worked deep into the muscles, easing away tension and tightness where I never knew existed. Bliss!

It took some getting used to, but it wasn’t long before I was fully relaxed into oblivion as all of the stress and tension throughout my body was methodically rolled away by a diligent masseuse. Different reeds were used for different areas of the body and special attention was paid to trigger certain pressure points, as well. And while this particular treatment might not be for those who prefer complete silence (the masseuse checks in every so often to make sure the pressure of the varying reeds are still comfortable and effective); the overall result, in my opinion, is well worth the disturbance.

No stranger to luxurious, pampering massages, I speak from experience when I say this massage is a must-have for those who need a little extra oomph to unwind. It miraculously works deep into your muscles and makes a difference in how your body feels days later. I think it’s safe to say that hidden inside this music mecca is a spa treatment worth seeking.

If you’re looking for a rock star experience but still crave a dash of luxury and relaxation, head to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. After 40 years, it’s quite clear this brand is full of surprises and still going strong. Visit HardRockHotel.com to learn more.
