The three front men may be blue, but the music is upbeat and smashing. Maybe striking is more to the point, because these guys absolutely love to hit stuff. Hardcore percussion is found in all their rocked-out, electro-pop musical offerings. The array of innovative instruments the trio smacks to raise a dither include a two-inch PVC pipe, a four-inch PVC pipe, a piano smasher, and a zither. MPC, which is short for Matt, Phil and Chris, founded the BMG in 1987. Several CD releases and a Grammy later, the spiraling success of the Blue Man Group has created a species of Blue entertainers with worldwide reach. There are at least 60 Blue men and 50 musicians performing on stages in Las Vegas, NYC, Boston, and Chicago.
The Blue Man Group has such a following that the Venetian built the colorful trio its own 1,760-seat theater, the Blue Man Theater, which includes a poncho section up front to keep the closest fans debris-free. Check out the 10-track CD Live at the Venetian - Las Vegas. BMG's latest CD is the Last Train to Trancentral.
I was surprised by this show. I didn't think I would like it, I typically need more than just a bunch of noise-making and physical comedy to keep me entertained...and this show turned out to be more. It really is a show for the senses. Sight, Sound, Smell and even touch. It was funny, clean, entertaining and I recommend it.
