Ascot has come a long way since its first race 300 years ago. In 1922, a Times correspondent wrote that "Ascot is notoriously the best place in England to see beautiful women in beautiful clothes."

Today, however, the annual ladies' day event is more about outrageous hats than trying to impress. You can expect to see a host of celebrities from royalty to A-list stars, and well-known faces of every caliber flock to this renowned event. As Ascot is celebrating its tercentenary, there are special exhibitions, books and shows taking place between June 14-18 - with the annual ladies' day (or Gold Cup day) taking place on Thursday, June 16.

Fashionistas should head to the Royal Ascot Fashion Show, which, having launched in 2007, is definitely one of the Royal Meet's highlights. This year sees the welcome return of millinery master Stephen Jones, Amanda Wakeley, Julian Mcdonald and the grand dame of British fashion, Vivienne Westwood. Each will showcase their latest designs in an extravaganza that exhibits Royal Ascot's reputation in celebrating the finest UK fashion designers.

Royal Ascot has additionally named Todd Lynn as their chosen BFC partner for this year's fashion show. A designer who is swiftly gaining credibility on the catwalks, with his trademark androgynous tailoring and confessed love for London, as a fashion capital.

Founded by Queen Anne in 1711, Ascot Racecourse has been uniquely synonymous in the sporting and social world with fashion and style coupled with the greatest racing over three centuries. "This year is a true milestone at Ascot as we mark 300 years of tremendous sport and colorful history at the Royal Racecourse," Charles Barnett, Chief Executive at Ascot, said.

"We are celebrating our tercentenary in many ways through the year, perhaps most aptly by unveiling a statue of Ascot's greatest equine legend, Yeats, at the Royal Meeting. The full tercentenary program is included in this guide, including information about the 'Queen Anne' Rose, commemorating our founder and the first of twelve monarchs to have presided over the racecourse."

There are a host of deluxe packages available. Tickets start from £59, for more details see ascot.co.uk.
