The Whitney Museum of American Art holds a collection of 20th- and 21st-century art. Much focus is placed on living artists, and the more than 18,000 works canvass a wide array of media. 'The Whit,' as New Yorkers call it, is dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting American art, and its famed Biennial Exhibition is often one of the best on the city's museum calendar.
The museum encompasses four floors of exhibition space, with large spaces often devoted to film and video presentations. There is also a restaurant, Untitled, that serves gourmet brunch, breakfast, and lunch.
