New York Things To Do: Coney Island is actually a peninsula in southern Brooklyn that is home to the famous amusement park and is still a mini-vacation destination for New Yorkers. There are roller coasters, a ferris wheel, a carousel and an expansive arcade of fair games.
During the popular summer months, a minor league baseball team plays games at their stadium on the peninsula and the famous Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest happens here every 4th of July.
