The collection of the Musée national d'art moderne, now one of the world's leading collections of 20th century art, features almost 53,000 works, covering the whole range of creative arts, from painting to architecture, through photography, cinema, new media, sculpture and design. It covers two full levels of the centre with contemporary art on level 4 (1960 to the present) and modern art (1905 to 1960) on level 5. Major artists from the last century (Picasso, Giacometti, Pollock, Dali and Duchamp, etc.) are displayed on level 5. On level 4, pride of place is given to contemporary creation, including artists such as Penone, Boltanski and Rondinone. Monographic rooms alternate with thematic areas (Fauvism, de Stijl, performance, monochrome painting, design and the virtual world), providing a clear overview of the major trends in modern and contemporary creative arts.
