There’s nothing like the holiday season to help spread not only good cheer, but the willingness to lend a hand to those in need. This year the St. Regis San Francisco will host Holiday Magic with The Velveteen Rabbit in an effort to benefit the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. On December 9th, the ODC Dance Company will perform an interpretation of the beloved tale, written by Margery Williams and illustrated by William Nicholson, of how a toy bunny becomes real after being so thoroughly loved by his owner. The event will begin at 12 noon with an elegant, private tea party inside the St. Regis where guests will have the opportunity to meet the characters from the ODC Dance Company before the production begins.
The ODC Dance Company, which was founded in 1971, is comprised of ten, world-class dancers who perform for more than 50,000 people annually with engagements that include shows at the Joyce Theater in New York as well as the Kennedy Center, and appearances throughout Europe. The Velveteen Rabbit is one of the company’s most loved annual performances, having become a Bay Area Christmas tradition after 26 seasons. Following the tea, guests will head to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts where they can enjoy the show from VIP seating. Tickets to the event are $100 a person, all of which will be donated to Robin Hood Foundation’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. The Robin Hood Foundation will use the funds to help the second phase of their recovery efforts, which includes providing long-term needs for those most affected by the storm. Housing, job-training, and counseling are just a few of the services the funding will help cover.
The five-star hotel, located inside San Francisco’s SOMA district is just steps away from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, blending historical architecture with modern comforts in one of the most vibrant cities in the United States. The St. Regis San Francisco is also offering Holiday Magic with The Velveteen Rabbit travel packages, for the dates of December 8 and December 9, through which guests can enjoy VIP seats for the tea and performance, as well as elegant room accommodations for a night ($625).
