We happily, and eagerly, returned to our Pacific playground in November to take advantage of the warm weather, clear skies, blue ocean and everything else that Maui offers. And it offers A LOT.
From incredible restaurants serving delectable cuisine, to activities that including ziplining, jet-skiing and parasailing, to gorgeous natural beauty for walks, hikes and runs, to astoundingly beautiful resorts offering every imaginable luxury, to glorious beaches for sunning, swimming and snorkeling - Maui has it all.
And one place to find it all in one spot is at the Kapalua Villas - a special vacation experience located at the legendary Kapalua Resort. The setting is nestled within a 22,000-acre working pineapple plantation surrounded by emerald fairways (golf, anyone?) and bordered by a dramatic coastline of lava peninsulas and secluded ocean bays. We believe you get the best of several features: luxury accommodations, a wide range of amenities and individuality with the privacy of a resort vacation.
Now a member of Outrigger Hotels, Resorts and Condominiums, the Kapalua Villas property is merits serious consideration if you're going to be a guest on Maui and want all of the above. We stayed in Villa 34G4, which opens with a special security code (no key needed), which in itself was a great convenience. Our villa offered a full kitchen with all the amenities plus a handsome and roomy living/dining area.
The bathroom offers an open, walk-in shower and plenty of room for two people. Our bedroom featured a king-sized bed with wonderful linens. For example, it featured a Simmons Beautyrest World Class Mattress with Memory Foam pillow top - in other words, nap time was a dream.
The one-, two-, and three-bedroom condominiums that range from 1,200 to 1,400 square feet feature full kitchens, washers/dryers, air conditioning and daily housekeeping service. The Premium Gold Villas offer newly remodeled kitchens and baths, granite countertops, updated furnishings, flat-screen TVs, robes and slippers, nightly turndown service and a welcome amenity.
If you need more than that, then consider the three-, four- and five-bedroom luxury homes within the resort; these measure from 3,600 to 5,700 square feet. These luxuriously appointed estate homes are located in a private, gated community each with their own pool, large chef kitchens and multiple entertaining areas.
If you stay for seven nights in one of the luxury homes, the wealth of complimentary-included services is impressive, including daily Hertz rental of a luxury SUV vehicle; a choice of one activity for each guest (choose, for example, from a round of golf, an in-home massage, zipline tour); Welcome Home grocery package; tropical floral arrangement; 10,000 Hawaiian Miles for Hawaiian Airlines members; Kapalua logo robe for each adult guest and a logo beach towel for each child; and many more wonderful amenities to make your stay as perfect as possible.
Just take the spa, for instance. In this 30,000-square-foot facility, you'll find Hawaiian and water therapy treatments; body therapies such as seaweed wraps and banana-ti-leaf masque; a wealth of massage therapies; all kinds of skin therapies; plus beauty salon services including manicures. Other than the 19 treatment rooms, the women's area, for example, includes a Jacuzzi; cold rain shower; sauna, steam room with complimentary Molokai sea salt so you can perform your own exfoliation; and outdoor infinity pool.
There are also 10 private hales for outdoor treatments. The fitness center is very well equipped and boasts, among other things, Kinesis circuit training machines that use cables for resistance (vs. weights). There's also an immense yoga studio offering magnificent views of Lanai. For the ultimate, schedule a "Journey Through The Ocean" massage in which two therapists work in synchronization for an aroma-therapeutic total body massage.
For golfers, the Plantation Course beckons, which Golf Magazine in 2008, rated the Number One Golf Course in Hawaii. Players are drawn by tranquil views of Molokai when they play on this par-73, 7,411-yard course. This course is home of the winners-only PGA Tour season-opening event. The grand scale of the course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, unfurls across natural geographic formations and pineapple fields.
If you don't know the difference between a bogey and a birdie, well that's why the Kapalua Golf Academy is there - a state-of-the-art facility that offers players of all levels an opportunity to improve and perfect their game. Sessions cover all aspects of the game and are customized to the meet the needs of any individual or group.
Don't forget going to the beach; afterall you're in Hawaii. Three beautiful white-sand beaches beckon, including two that have been designated as "America's Best Beaches" - Kapalua Bay and D. T. Fleming beach. These are havens for snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and kayaking. Now go and hang ten!
